Decades ago, an evergreen tree in the triangle at Newark Avenue and Monmouth Street was decorated with lights for the holiday season by residents of the Village.

To help bring back this neighborhood holiday tradition, the Village Neighborhood Association is hosting a tree lighting ceremony in Lambiase Plaza this weekend.

Special Guest: Councilwoman Candice Osborne

Hot Cocoa will be served!

We’d like to thank our sponsors BGT Enterprises and Bouquets and Baskets for their generous support with this project!

Happy Holidays!

1:15: BENSON RIDGE PROJECT
Al Festa began the Benson Ridge Project in January 2010 to provide opportunities for musicians to “get out there and do what they love – perform in front of an appreciative and well fed, well behaved crowd”. The Project’s mission is to share good feelings with friends, give musicians a showcase to perform and to eat good Italian meatballs (from his Grandma’s secrete recipe). According to Al, key words that define the Benson Ridge Project are inclusion, tolerance, instincts (listen) and innovation.

2:00: DARREN DEICIDE
Darren delivers a contemporary style of roots-influenced rock that has been described as “John Lee Hooker meets Johnny Rotten”, “raw, bluesy punk by a one-man dervish”

3:15: THE BUZZSAW BOYS An acoustic rock trio that play classic country, rock and original tunes.

4:00: JIM TESTA
JIM TESTA is best known as the guy on the other side of the stage; as a critic, blogger, fanzine editor, photographer, and fan, he’s been at the forefront of New Jersey’s indie music scene since the Eighties. But every once in a while, he’ll take his acoustic guitar, step on stage, and face the audience, regaling them with his own wry, often satiric folk tales of life in Hudson County, with a style reminiscent of John Prine, Loudon Wainwright III, and Tom Leher.

4:15: OVERLAKE
Formed in early 2012 within the walls of JC Studios, Overlake have spent the past year and a half polishing a sound uniquely their own, while paying debts to musical touchstones such as My Bloody Valentine and Sonic Youth. Sensuous vocals are matched with glimmering guitar work, all the while backed by driving bass lines and solid drumming. Their first album will be released in early 2014
