The Trash Mob is a Village Neighborhood Association born initiative designed to eliminate litter through community engagement. Think of it as the “gamification of garbage”. It’s a neighborhood beautification initiative with rewards that can not only be seen in the form of cleaner sidewalks and streets, but also redeemed at local businesses if you are one of our lucky winners!

August Update:

Thanks to Andy and Ben for loaning their company van to the Trash Mob! It arrived at our July Trash Mob emblazoned with our logo! Hilarious!

Remember, all you need to do is:

  • SWEEP the litter in front of your home into a pile…
  • E-MAIL us where your pile is by 10:30 AM (or that you don’t have any litter) and we’ll send the Hit Squad do pick it up and you’ll be entered to…
  • WIN prizes from local favorites like Pig & Pepper, Union Republic, Hazel Baby, Hound about Town and more.

Join The Village Neighborhood Association tomorrow, Tuesday April 26, at 7:30 pm, for a “Taste of the Village” night at Victoria’s Reataurant  (353 Third Street).

Victoria’s is new to the neighborhood, so tomorrow night would be the perfect opportunity to stop in, eat some food, and talk Village!

We will sample the tasty pizza at Victoria’s Restaurant while hosting guests:

Bob “Bubbles” Bhatti will present his vision for the new building project at 102 – 110 Brunswick Street @ First Street (Carmine’s Pizza/Bob Bubbles)

We also welcome Felicia Noth who will talk about the need for teacher parking at PS# 5, Dr Conte School, and how this will affect our neighborhood.

Hope to see everyone tomorrow!! Tell your neighbor!

Last month was the first time we held our meeting at a location other than PS #5, and judging from the overwhelming positive feedback we received, its safe to say that our March meeting will again be held at the Lamp Post. Thanks to everyone who stopped by.

A hot topic during last month’s meeting was a new 48 unit development proposed for the corner of Newark Avenue and Third Street. 292-294 Newark Avenue to be exact.

A Community Gathering of Art, Music, and Cool Stuff

(Jersey City, NJ—April 11, 2010)—Nothing says spring better than a friendly neighborhood get-together…and The Village Neighborhood Association (VNA) knows how to do it best! On Saturday, May 15, 2010, the VNA, with the support of 4th Street Arts, is hosting The 2nd Annual Village Art & Flea Market.

Last year, the Village Art & Flea drew more than 2,000 locals who shopped an amazing array of arts and crafts made by local artisans and fine artists, as well as fabulous vintage goods and bric-a-brac sold by Village residents. This year promises to be just as big with all the above as well as live music by up-and-coming bands, delectable food from area restaurants, games for kids, raffles, and so much more. This event raises awareness for the VNA and encourages the community to believe in and befriend the people around them. It also raises awareness for local talent while encouraging sales and awareness for area businesses.

To add to the excitement and fun of the day, 4th Street Arts will be hosting a “Bike-a-Thon” where contestants will compete to see who can hold on to a custom, hand-painted Grove Street Bicycle beach cruiser (painted by local artist Mark Finne) the longest. The last person holding on wins this rolling piece of art. This fundraiser benefits the 4th Street Art & Music Festival, taking place on October 2, 2010. For additional information, email [email protected].

Participate: The VNA is accepting applications for arts and flea vendors, sponsors, food vendors, and musicians. To learn more, please click HERE
