Crews Complete Repair of 24-inch Transmission Main
Harrington Park, NJ, Sep 02, 2009, 9 a.m.
Emergency crews have completed the repair of a broken 24-inch water transmission main in Jersey City. A boil precautionary water advisory issued for the city remains in place until further notice. Customers can obtain drinking water from tankers stationed at the locations below. They should bring containers with caps. The tankers are located at:
• Sip Avenue and Kennedy Blvd
• Lincoln Park by Westside Avenue
The company is testing water samples from throughout Jersey City and will provide the laboratory results to the NJ Department of Environmental Protection. It typically takes 24-48 hours before a boil water advisory can be lifted. Customers in Jersey City are advised to boil their water at a rolling boil for one minute for the following uses: drinking, cooking, baking, making ice cubes, taking medication, brushing teeth, washing food, mixing baby formula, mixing juices or drinks, feeding pets or other consumption.
Some customers may temporarily have discolored water. This is the result of harmless minerals which have accumulated in the water mains. Crews will be flushing the lines to resolve the problem.
