East District Operation Identification

PUBLIC NOTICE

Captain Daniel Sollitti, Commander of the East District has announced that the East District will be participating in “Operation Identification”

Operation Identification is nationally recognized by law enforcement as a citizen’s burglary prevention program for use in the home or business.

The Operation ID program allows law enforcement to detect, identify, and return stolen or lost property to its rightful owner. Prominently displayed decals will proactively deter a burglar from attempting an entry.

The Operation ID program involves marking or engraving property with an identifying number and displaying a window decal to discourage burglary and theft. The ideal identifying number is your state issued Driver’s License number which is easily recognized and traced by law enforcement. Marked items make the sale of items difficult and deter a burglar from attempting to break in. In the event of a theft, marked items are easier for law enforcement to track and identify for return to their owner. Avoid using your social security number.  Any resident or business interested in participating may contact East District Community Relations Officer P.O. Dina Lionakis who will provide a departmental engraving tool and official Operation ID decals for window display.  Officer Lionakis can be reached by calling 201-547-5408 or by emailing [email protected].  Officer Lionakis will schedule an appointment for an officer to respond to your home or business to assist you in marking and recording your valuables.  The East District will provide official decals for display in your windows.

There are 3 important steps required to participate in the Operation ID program:

  2. Inventory your marked property on a form with descriptions including brand, model number, and serial number. Keep it in a safe place.
  3. Display the Operation ID decal on windows ONLY AFTER items 1 and 2 have been completed to show your participation in the program and to discourage burglary.
